13th Annual Summer Wrestling Training Camp A Great Success
Another summer passed, and another greatly successful summer camp. The week saw great progress from all the trainee's in attendance, as they learnt and crafted various techniques, throws, submissions, takedowns and a whole multitude of pro wrestling techniques. Andre Baker was of course there to lead the camp, and share his wealth of knowledge from his experience in the numerous martial arts, submission, and professional wrestling achievements and qualifications he has collected over the years, and was also assistive by Psycho Steve and Zack Sabre Jnr, both of whom are qualified instructors. Along with learning the importance and practical use of submission wrestling, there was a high emphasis on the pro side of things, with the trainee's at the end of the week demonstrating a exhibition match to put their new skills into practice.

More On Fergal Devitt's US Tour

Picking up from where he left off in October, November proved to be an even busier month for Fergal Devitt and he battled up and down the New England area for a number of different promotions.

Devitt kicked off November in fine fashion for MWF (Millennium Wrestling Federation) in a stellar outing against Eddie Edwards (Pro Wrestling NOAH) and John Walters (Ring of Honor) in a triple treat for the MWF TV Title. In 15 minutes of back and forth action, Edwards pined Walters for the win. Following this performance, Devitt’s profile rose and he entered a series of matches widely accepted as among the finest of the year. Battling Walters is a hard hitting roller coaster of a match for Chaotic Wrestling, Edwards in a mat based technical masterpiece for DPW (Defiant Pro Wrestling) and Luis Ortiz in a highflying mid-air clash for MWF.

More outings for RCW (Revial Championship Wrestling) and WFA (Wrestling Federation of America) against Reaper and Scoot Reed respectfully left fans (and both opponents) with a taste of how Devitt put it, 'How we do things in NWA IRELAND’. Say no more.

In another outing at MWF, opponent Osiris fell victim to Devitt's now trademark leg-bar, which has been applied out of the blue from many angles on countless opponents.

Next for Devitt came NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING.

After seeing Devitt's consistent in ring performances, an invitation was sent for him to come train at the NJPW Dojo in L.A, Spending almost 4 weeks from November 21st to December 15th, Devitt trained 6 days a week along side and under some of the best in wrestling today. Training under Kendo Kash along side the likes of Black Tiger and Daniel Pruder, Devitt advanced in all classes, including not only pro wrestling but also kickboxing, ju jitsu and even yoga. Another class enjoyed by the students at the dojo was Friday morning bodybuilding class with professional bodybuilder and coach Ken Yasuda.

Making such a good showing of himself, the staff the NJPW Dojo extended another invitation to Devitt to return to the Dojo, for their now twice weekly shows and further training. Devitt will return to LA on Jan 20th 2006.

A couple of weeks in the life of Fergal Devitt
Amongst many of the NWA UK/Ireland Hammerlock stars making a good name for themselves on the international scene is Irelands Fergal Devitt who is presently on a three month non-stop tour of America, below is a report covering the first two weeks of his tour, more to follow soon from Fergal and others including reports from Rebecca Knox who is currently touring America and Japan.

Sept 24th - NECW TV. Pawtucket, RI.

In a match which was referred to as 'the best in NECW TV history', Devitt made his debut in winning fashion by defeating K.L Murphy when he countered a sunset flip pff the top rope for the pin.

Sept 25th - NECW. Somerville, MA.

Forming a tag team with fellow Irish man Joe Cabray, Devitt took on the team of Tim Dillon (UK) and Ricky Reyes (ROH). Devitt and Cabray proved too strong and following a top rope double stomp by Devitt on Dillon the Irish duo took the pinfall for the victory.

Sept 30th - Slamtech Wrestling. Seekonk, MA.

Devitt took on Bob Evans, an opponent be would become accustomed to competing against. Following a very technical battle of wits and skills, Devitt forced Evans into submission with a leg bar.

Oct 6th - NWA 57th Convention. Nashville, TN.

After traveling to Nashville to meet the rest of the NWA Ireland team, Devitt once again paired with Paul Tracey to defeat the team of Sean 'Maxer' Brennan and Phil 'The Thrill' Boyd in a match that could only be described as an example of how things are done in NWA Ireland.

Oct 8th - NWA 57th Convention. Nashville, TN.

Following months of build up and verbal assaults by both parties, it was finally time to settle the score once and for all as Devitt took on NWA Quebec’s Dru Onyx for the NWA British Commonwealth Title. Following almost 10 minutes of back and forth action, of which Devitt said was among one of his toughest battles to date, Onyx tapped out to a cross arm bar applied by Devitt from a standing position. Following the match, both combatants, with a new found respect for each other shook hands in the middle of the ring.

October 14th - NECW. Framingham, MA.

A late entrant into the NECW annual Iron 8 Tournament, Devitt took on NECW regular Joe Chese in a match where both men would throw everything at each other to come out on top. Devitt suffered his first defeat of his tour when Chese countered a German supplex and hit his patented Chese power slam for a close 3 count.

Oct 15th - NECW. Framingham, MA.

After receiving late confirmation that the NWA would sanction a NWA British Commonwealth Title match, Devitt would put the title up against 'The Epic' Mike Bennett (managed by Alex Crowley). Devitt overcame Bennett and interference from Crowley to hit his Devitt-End supplex for the pinball.

Oct 22nd - NWA Virginia. Roanoke, VA.

Devitt again put the title on the line against the NWA Virginia Alpha Champion Brandon Day. This back and forth match could have went either way, but when Devitt avoided Days attempt to use his Alpha title as a weapon, and followed up with his over head bicycle kick, he scored the 3 count and the victory.

Oct 27th - NECW. Somerville, MA.

Devitt would meet Bob Evans once again in a match that was referred to as 'a wrestling lesson'. With the title on the line Devitt and Evans kept this one on the mat, with Devitt retaining his title forcing the submission again with a leg bar. Both men received a standing ovation and agreed to go at it one more time the following night.

Oct 28th - Slamtech Wrestling. Seekonk, MA.

Devitt again put his title on the line in the 3rd part of the Devitt vs. Evans Trilogy. This time, contested under European Rules of 6 rounds of 3 minutes, with 2 falls, 2 submissions or a knockout to determine the finish. Devitt won 2 falls to 1 in the 5th round again using the leg bar to win his second fall of the match.

Oct 29th - NECW. Plainfield, CT.

Defending his title against all comers, Devitt put the NWA British Commonwealth Title on the line again against NECW monster Michael Sain. This hard hitting match saw Devitt first out wrestle Sain but then saw Sain dominate Sain for long spells. With nearly 20 minutes on the clock, Devitt countered a choke slam attempt and rolled up Sain for the win.

SEEK 'N' DESTROY RETURN AND IRISH TAG CHAMPS MAKE MEGA IMPACT!

NWA Ireland Tag Team Champions Team Mega were on hand at NWA-UK Hammerlocks Live Event  Friday Night, November 11th in Grays, Essex in the UK. They were both entered as singles wrestlers in a King of the Ring tournament. However the tournament ending took an unexpected twist as you will find out as you read their results and happenings below.

King of the Ring - Round 1:

Danny Butler pinned JP Monroe with a spine-buster, then got hit with a ddt by JP's manager Jezebel post match. Justin Bred pinned Zack Sabre Junior following his 'Clean Liffey Plunge' finishing move, in a tightly contested match.

King of the Ring Semi-Finals:

Danny Butler beat Tony McMillan of Seek 'n' Destroy with a Boston Crab. Justin Bred beat Exodus with help from Danny Butler.

While Team Mega were doing an in-ring promo refusing to go up against each other in the tournament final and declaring themselves joint winners of the King of the Ring Tournament, they were interrupted by the returning home town hero’s Tony and Dave McMillan, better known to NWA-UK Hammerlock fans as 'Seek 'n' Destroy'. They proposed the final match of the tournament be a non-title tag team match with Team Mega facing Seek 'n' Destroy.

In the final match, Seek 'n' Destroy once again showed their in-ring stiffness and power and defeated Team Mega by pin fall. The Irish team were then forced to agree to the stipulation that if they are still NWA Ireland Tag Team Champions when NWA-UK Hammerlock returns to the Civic Hall in Grays, Essex that they must defend their titles against Seek 'n' Destroy.

IRISH IMPACT ONCE AGAIN THIS TIME AT THE TAP 'N' TIN.

At Hammerlock's last show at the Tap N Tin on Wednesday 16th November, a four man tournament involved travelling NWA IRELAND stars 'Juvenile Delinquent' Keith Loughman, who took on JP Monroe in the first round, and Keith’s tag team partner and fellow Finglas Hooligan 'Thunderkid' Robbie Morrissey, who  battled Danny Williams, and although both coming up short in their singles matches, both made a great impression, and Hammerlock looks forward to seeing them compete in the NWA-UK ring very soon. Danny Williams defeated JP Monroe won the final of the tournament, after hitting a picture perfect moonsault.

This led us to the much anticipated Strap match for the NO1 contendership to the NWA-UK Heavyweight Championship. Champion Johnny Moss had set the challenge of fighting a mystery opponent for Jon Ryan to earn the right for a title shot. And boy did Jon Ryan have his work cut out, when his mystery opponent turned out to be none other than monster HUGH MUNGUS. A battle from the start, with the strap's obvious use as a weapon not being ignored, Jon Ryan some how managed to overcome the might of Hugh Mungus and pick up the victory. This meaning that at Hammerlock's next show at the tap n tin, Johnny Moss will have to defend his title against the 'Bad Boy of British Wrestling' Jon Ryan.

The Main event of the show, was the much anticipated NWA-UK Junior Heavyweight title match between new Champion Zack Sabre Jr making his first defence against the "Rudeboy" Peter Jay. A match not without history; not only had Peter Jay sneaked up from behind and beat down on Zack and Jimmy Havoc back in September, after both men had just fought over 30 mins in a 4 way elimination match, he and tag team partner Danny Williams last month in October, were seconds away from being defeated, they resorted to cheating to pick up the win, and further add insult to Zack Sabre Jnr and Jimmy Havoc. But back to the match. A highly heated and emotionally charged contest, the match went back and forth until Peter Jay was able to catch Zack with a highly dangerous top rope belly to belly supplex, attempting the same manoeuvre again, but this time Sabre Jnr outsmarted the "Rudeboy" and caught him with a second rope "Sabre Driver", moments away from the 3 count, Danny Williams entered the ring and proceeded to stomp the hell out of Zack causing the match to be declared a Non Contest. After the continuing beat down, injured Jimmy Havoc made his way to ring sending Danny and Peter over op rope. Zack Sabre Jnr retained his title, and you can be sure that this feud is definitely not quite over yet.

Youngest Ever NWA-UK Champion crowned in Whitehaven, Cumbria

Saturday 22nd October 2005 not only saw a very successful show in Cumbria it also saw Hammerlock crown a new NWA-UK Junior Heavyweight Champion in front of the packed crowd.

Eighteen year old Zack Sabre Jnr defeated the SWA's Falcon in a fine match up. A closely contested match, Sabre Jnr stepped up a notch with a flurry of vicious forearms, a release German suplex and a 'Sabre Driver' to pick up the win. Zack who started his Hammerlock training at the young age of 14 has spent the last four years learning everything he can from the Hammerlock training school in Kent, after the show Zack was over the moon and honoured to become champion, and said that he cannot wait to defend it. Zack will make his first title defence at the Tap 'N' Tin on the 17th November against "Rudeboy" Peter Jay.

In other News from the Recent show in Cumbria

The I.W.F showcased what they have to offer in a challenge match involving Yougsta Avery and  Shaun Storm, Youngsta Avery picked up the win in that match.

S.W.A made their presence felt on the show, many of the Stars making appearances, notably Scottish Champion Eric Canyon, Adam Shame, and Conscience.

And in the main event, Local Heroes and Johnny Moss & Stefan Walofski defeated NWA Ireland champion Paddy Morrow & NWA-UK Champion Paul Tracey in a match so electric the Roof nearly came of their building.

The fans who were fully behind Moss and Walsofski stormed the ring to celebrate with the Winners in grand style, a fitting end to a successful show.

New NWA UK Heavyweight Champion  In Title V Title Match in Nashville, TN, USA

At NWA Irelands Live Event in Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow, Ireland on Friday September 30th Paul Tracey pinned ‘Vigilante’ Johnny Moss to become NWA-UK Hammerlock Heavyweight Champion for the second time in his career. After a technical and hard fought match Moss attempted a sunset flip from the apron back into the ring over Tracey, who dropped to the canvas, hooked Moss’ legs and scored the pinfall to take the title.

The NWA-UK Hammerlock Office had announced that whoever won this match would go to Nashville next week to represent NWA-UK Hammerlock at the 57th NWA Anniversary Shows and Convention is Nashville, Tennessee.

Tracey’s first defence of the title will therefore be next Saturday Night at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds Sports Arena in Nashville in a Title V Title Match when NWA-UK Hammerlock Champion Paul Tracey takes on NWA Ireland Champion Paddy ‘Suicide Machine’ Morrow with the winner taking both titles. This match promises to be a cracker and both Tracey and Morrow are looking forward to bringing the technical and hard hitting Hammerlock style of wrestling to the USA once again.

Does the whole world hate the Bad Boy?
NWA-UK’s Jon Ryan is now not only probably the most hated wrestler in the UK, he has managed to upset the citizens of Sanford, Florida as well. The Bad Boy of British Wrestling made his debut for the Florida-based Pro Wrestling Warfare (PWWF) on Friday 26th August at the Sanford Civic Centre.

Ryan took on NWA-TNA X-Division superstar, Mikey Batts, in a transatlantic clash which left the crowd baying for the blood of the Bad Boy. Ryan showed his characteristic mean streak, and had the crowd in a fury, willing Batts to overcome the visitor. Batts eventually prevailed, and pinned Ryan with the Batts Beater for the victory.

Jon Ryan has vowed to return to the States early next year to take out his frustrations at losing to “that useless Yank” on any and all Americans who will take him on.

Johnny Moss invited to Train At The Renowned New Japan Dojo
NWA UK Heavyweight champion Johnny Moss is set to fly out to New Japan Pro Wrestling's US training facility in Santa Monica in the very near future, Moss has an open invitation to train at the legendary dojo at a date convenient to his ever increasing hectic schedule, Moss hopes to stay and train with the N.J.P.W team for around one month during which time he will be taking part in the hard daily training regime.

The invitation came about after Hammerlock's Andre Baker contacted N.J.P.W's Simon Inoki on behalf of Moss. Johnny Moss has asked us to make his appreciation known to Mr Baker & Mr Inoki, he said "I am very grateful to both Mr Inoki & Mr Baker for the part they have both played in making this tremendous opportunity possible for me, I knew that Mr Inoki & Mr Baker have previously had business dealings together on a good few occasions and because of this I was confident that they would be able to work something out for me".

Welcome Back To More of Our Established Wrestlers
In addition to Segun Carter returning to Hammerlock rings recently we are also pleased to welcome back to action even more of our established stars in the shape of the ever popular Mike Mendoza, the flamboyant Kassius and  the rule breaking Danny Garnell.

All the above mentioned wrestler performed well in their recent matches proving that they had not lost their touch during the absence, there is talk of a return to action at Hammerlock for several other of our established stars including the masked Technico and some others that we can not name as of yet but a World Heavyweight surprise could be in store.

Globe Trotting Segun Carter Returns To Target UK Champion

After over a year and a half of injury and rehabilitation Segun’s doctors and specialists have finally given the go ahead to return to the ring. Mid 2003 Carter had just successfully completed a tour of Australia and Fiji, shortly after returning he participated in matches for NWA Ireland. On returning to compete in the UK Segun was quickly rushed to hospital with a rupturing appendix where he was immediately operated on.

Carter was due to return to the ring eight weeks after the operation, however this just wasn’t to be as a string of injuries including a reoccurring back problem kept Carter sidelined. He did however participate in two ladder matches in early 2004 answering the challenges of Psycho Steve and Paul Vault, although Carter gave a good account of himself but his performance and ability in these matches confirmed the injuries where still hindering him and he would not be in a position to return to the ring until these problems were completely resolved.

Carter is now said to be in great shape and more than ready to return with his full attention focused on the NWA UK heavyweight champion, Johnny Moss. He does however realise he has got a long hard fight ahead of him to earn his shot but is welcoming the challenge.

Hammerlock's Travelling Training Camps a Great Success

Hammerlock wrestling has recently held two day training camps in conjunction  with NWA Ireland, MPW and The IWF. The training camps were a huge success, and all 3 promotions have asked for Andre Baker to return to repeat the  success of the camps.

Andre Baker was the Head Coach for the three camps and  was assisted by NWA Ireland Trainers Paul Tracey and Fergal Devitt.  Similarly In Coventry Majik and Psycho Steve were standing by to lend a  hand, and during the weekend with the IWF NWA-UK Heavyweight Champion Johnny Moss was there to assist Andre at the camp.  Zack Sabre Jnr was also on hand during the camps to assist Andre.

During the camps the trainees were taken right through from basic bumping  skills, and exercises designed to help safe bumping, ring positioning and  timing. Andre's 26 years of experience in the wrestling business enabled him to teach throws and teach a style that can be learnt from no other trainer in the UK. His various qualifications in martial arts gave the trainees an opportunity to learn throws not regular available in pro  wrestling schools such as sombo throws.

Trainees were not only taught new  sequences and moves but also given the chance to perfect their skills under  the watch-full eye of Andre. There was a very large improvement noticed in all trainees throughout the camps.

As always the Hammerlock teams were keeping an eye out for any potential talent that could used on future Shows.  Along  with the various wrestling skills that were taught over the weekends,  Seminars were given on professionalism, appearance and character Development, Andre was also available for any Q&A that the trainees required.

Fitness training and techniques were also introduced to help the students with their stamina and cardiovascular fitness. By the end of the training weekends, improvements all round had been made and all trainees had tightened up their skills and added many new ones to  their repertoire. Obviously with the camps only lasting for two days Andre wasn't able to teach as much as he would have liked to, but looks forward to returning to continue and further improve their skills and wrestling ability. Hammerlock will be staging a two day training camp at their training school in Cardiff in the near future and will travel up the Scotland to hold a training camp in conjunction with SWA.
